Fury is assigned to a new platoon with Wardaddy serving as Platoon Sergeant. They re-enter combat, where Norman's inexperience becomes dangerous when he fails to shoot several Hitler Youth, who ambush the platoon leader's tank with a Panzerfaust, killing him and his crew, then later during a battle with a German anti-tank gun battery where he hesitates under fire. Angered at his incompetence, Wardaddy orders Norman to execute a captive German soldier; when Norman refuses, Wardaddy holds Norman in a chokehold and forces him to hold his revolver and pull the trigger, killing the German prisoner and traumatizing Norman. Wardaddy then leads the tanks to capture a small German town, where Norman, having seen the German brutality against the innocent civilian population, kills several German soldiers. Later, while searching an apartment, Wardaddy and Norman encounter a German woman, Irma, and her younger cousin, Emma. After some pressure from Wardaddy, who hints that he will sleep with Emma if Norman does not want to, Norman and Emma go into the bedroom together and have sex. The four then have breakfast, but the rest of the Fury crew barges in and harasses the women and angering Wardaddy and Norman. The men soon leave, just minutes before a German artillery bombardment strikes the town. Thereafter, Norman finds Emma among the dead, which traumatises him once more.

Wardaddy and his tank platoon are then ordered to hold a vital section of crossroads to guard the Allies' vulnerable rear lines. They head toward their objective, only to be ambushed by a superior German Tiger I tank. By maneuvering to the rear of the Tiger, Fury is able to fire into the weaker rear armor and thus destroy the German tank. Just as Fury reaches the crossroads, the tank is immobilized by a landmine explosion which breaks one of its tracks. Wardaddy then tells Norman to scout the nearby hill before giving him some rations while the crew tries to repair the broken track. After consuming his rations and enjoying some peace and quiet, Norman then spots a battalion of three hundred Waffen-SS panzergrenadiers headed right for Fury. He swiftly runs back to report this disturbing news to Wardaddy and the crew. The crew then initially decides to abandon the crossroads on foot. However, Wardaddy refuses to leave, saying that Fury is his home. He tells the crew that they may leave if they want to. Norman then declares his intention to stay with Wardaddy, followed by Gordo, Bible and finally Coon-Ass.

The crew then disguise Fury to make it appear to be abandoned, burning and disabled. They prepare ammunition and grenades for a final stand. The SS battalion arrives and inspect the seemingly disabled Fury. When they get close enough, the crew springs their trap and assails the Germans with all available weapons. Wardaddy and his men immediately inflict heavy losses on the German soldiers using the tank's main gun, machineguns, grenades and submachineguns. Many of the retreating soldiers take refuge in the nearby farmhouse. It is then incinerated by two cannon shots from Fury. The fierce battle wages on through the night as ammunition soon runs low and the Fury crew situation begins to turn desperate. Grady is then killed by a Panzerfaust anti-tank rocket shell penetrating the turret. Gordo is wounded standing up through a hatch while throwing grenades. Stunned and mortally wounded, he falls back down into the tank and sacrifices himself to cover his own ignited grenade, just dropped in as he was shot, thus saving Norman's life. Bible is later killed by being shot through the eye by a concealed German sniper while trying hand over grenades to Wardaddy, who is manning the 50. Cal.

Wardaddy is then critically wounded by three shots from a sniper as he manages to close the main hatch before falling back down into the tank where he and Norman share their last words while awaiting their inevitable fate. As the Germans drop their decisive battle-ending grenades into Fury, Wardaddy tells Norman to escape via a hatch under the tank. Wardaddy is killed moments later by the grenades dropped inside the tank as Norman manages to escape unscathed. He is later found hiding under the tank by a young SS soldier who, after some tense moments, decides to simply leave him instead of reporting him as the remnants of the German battalion, now much thinner in number, press on toward their destination.

Norman awakens early the next morning and re-enters the tank, finding the deceased members of Fury inside. He then respectfully and tearfully covers Wardaddy's lifeless body with his own jacket, and upon hearing noise outside, arms himself with the fallen Wardaddy's revolver. The hatch is then opened by a US Infantryman. A medic tells him that he is a hero. As he is loaded into an ambulance to be taken back to Allied lines, Norman looks back to see the battered Fury in the crossroads, surrounded by masses of dead German soldiers, evidence of the crew's valor the previous night, as American forces walk past it.
